In the vibrant and cosmopolitan city of Houston, there are several daycares and preschools offering French immersion programs. If you want your little ones to learn French with good pronunciation from an early age, an immersion program can be a great option.
With my husband being French and me being Japanese, we speak both French and Japanese at home. We felt that teaching them both languages along with English at school might be a bit overwhelming, so we enrolled our kids in French immersion preschools when they turned two and three.
Here are two places we were really happy with:
La Maternelle French Academy:
Located on Dairy Ashford near Briar Forest, this school conducts classes entirely in French, with a mix of children from both French-speaking and non-French-speaking families. When our kids attended, there were plenty of events where parents could volunteer, and I took lots of pictures during Halloween, Christmas, Easter egg hunts, and other celebrations like GO Texan Day and Francophonie.
Awty International School:
Located at the intersection of I10 and 610, Awty International School serves students from PK3 through high school. From PK3 to PK4, the school offer an immersion program in French or Spanish with daily instruction in English. In Kindergarten, the language of instruction alternates daily between French or Spanish and English and students develop fluency in both languages. Many of the students come from expatriate families, especially from France. The school hosts various events where parents can volunteer, a good way to meet parents from various countries and background. These schools provided wonderful opportunities for our kids to thrive in a multilingual environment!
